What is a Nail Disorder?
Whether you prefer them short or long, painted or natural, your nails say much about you. Many nail disorders affect the appearance or state of your toenails and fingernails. Nail disorders could result from a bacterial or fungal infection, virus, or an underlying medical illness like liver disease or lung cancer. If you notice a change in your fingernails or toenails, schedule an appointment with the Kind Health Group. We will diagnose and care for your nail disorder at our Encinitas, CA, medical facility.

"I’ve gotten a lot of facials before but this place is by far my favorite place. Jenna works wonders and is so friendly and fun. She takes her time and explains everything in thorough detail. I always leave feeling rejuvenated and refreshed."- S.N. / Yelp / Apr 01, 2022
"Having been a patient myself at Kind Medical Group, I was sure that the decision to bring my daughter in for care was a great idea…but I was still blown away at the level of care, kindness, and expertise that Kellye shared with us. We’d been through a few dermatologists with little success and a lot of frustration. I was so pleased to see how comfortable my daughter felt and was so happy to see her have hope again that she can have clear skin! Kellye, the PA at Kind, assured us that she had many years experience in treating acne and we left confident that the care plan she thoughtfully laid out for us would be successful. Thank you to the team at Kind for another great experience!"- L.D. / Google / Mar 25, 2022
"I came to Kind Health Group seeking treatment for urinary incontinence. Post menopause and 3 kids, I found myself unable to control my bladder which heavily weighed on my active lifestyle. Being unable to even do a jumping jack without leakage was humiliating! I came across this establishment and instantly felt warm and welcomed inside. Dr. Nanos is so professional and understanding. She made me feel very comfortable when discussing a very personal and embarrassing issue. She recommended the Emsella treatment and WOW my incontinence is completely gone! To be able to live a lifestyle without leakage is something I never thought would happen. I’m truly blown away by how kind and professional everyone is. I highly recommend! They also do a lot of aesthetic treatments as well that I’m sure I’ll be looking into soon. Thank you Kind!"- A.P. / Yelp / Feb 24, 2022

Nail Disorder Causes
Problems in the nails are generally brought on by a fungal or bacterial infection or a virus. Common disorders that affect the fingernails are:
- Athlete's foot
Nail disorders might also be caused by an underlying condition within your body, such as lung cancer, diabetes, heart conditions, and liver or thyroid disorders. During your exam, we will examine your nails to determine the cause. Though a physical examination is often enough, a sample of your cuticle or nail may be taken for a more accurate diagnosis.
Symptoms of a nail disorder
Some of the typical symptoms of a nail disorder are inflammation under and around your nails, a change in the color of your nails, brittle or thin nails that split easily, and nails that are grooved or bumpy. Sometimes, a nail disease can lead to pain, making it difficult to type or hold objects.
During your appointment, a team member will perform a comprehensive examination to diagnose the nail disorder and identify if there's an underlying condition. If you have a bacterial nail disease, you may be prescribed an antibiotic or antifungal medicine. Anti-inflammatory creams are also effective treatments for nail conditions.
